2015-16 FHL Playoffs SEMI FINAL Matchups

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2016-03-21 00:03:14 (updated by NorwegianOiler on 2016-03-27 23:20:26)

The final four have been decided through trial by fire. The conclusion forced cinderella team Dragons to acknowledge the cruelty of the playoffs, seeing as a week where the team put up better numbers than 20 teams but failed to beat the the only team it had to best. Thus, the Gladiators move through to the next stage. Their opponents, the Burninators, have people in thatched roof houses upgrading their smoke detectors with increasing concern, as Trogdor keeps paying merciless visits to all in the playoffs. In the other semi final, the Militia's powerhouse offense prove valuable once again as they gun down the feeble Raiders with exceeding ease. The Rhinos bulldozed a similar path to the semis, making short work of the lacklustre Megasus, who only finished above the Raiders in the week that mattered most this season. Whatever the outcome, the FHL will see a new playoff winner this season, may it come down to the final day of action!

2015-16 FHL Playoffs ROUND 2 Matchups

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2016-03-14 09:11:05 (updated by NorwegianOiler on 2016-03-20 23:50:28)

After a ferocious first round, the only two teams to have won the playoffs, namely the Heatwave and the Vikings, have both been eliminated. This ushers in the "dawn of the losers' time in the sun", as it is to be hereby known. Two of the top three seeded teams remain, however, as the Gladiators and Militia easily defeated their respective opponents the Devils and Rattleheads. Another upset was completed in the tightest matchup of the first round, where the Raiders just edged the Bulldogs by less than a full point. So, despite being the fourth best team that week, the Bulldogs are banished from the post-season by a red-hot Raiders team. While the Chiefs and Rhinos started out quite evenly, the series turned out to be a blowout as the Rhinos finished strong. They must now face a Megasus outfit that deposed the higher ranking Thunder in round one. The Mustangs provided no storybook ending to their terrible start of the week, thus the Bombers stumble into the second round through to fault of GM Racki, who spends most of his time waiving turds and updating the weekly rosters of mismanaged teams. Tougher opposition will likely be present in the Burninators who spent the first round giving the Heatwave a smackdown.

Here is the second round in gloriously coloured logos.

It is here again. Playoff time. The FHL deadline passed by relatively quietly, but noise is to be expected now that the FHL enters its third official playoff campaign. After two consecutive Norack Cups and playoff trophies the Vikings are still the team to beat, but several teams have produced good results the past few weeks and it appears that several matchups are poised for a tight race. Good luck, everyone.

This post will be reserved for the daily update of the playoff matchups - though somewhat later than the automatic update on the standings page. The first round matchups are as follows:

News re-run: FHL Playoff cutoff date (and playoff schedule)

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2016-02-23 01:13:54

Playoff cutoff 2015-16 is Sunday March 6th.

This is just a reminder to inform the league that the playoff cutoff date this season is after all NHL action on Sunday March 6th. At that point, playoff matchups will be decided according to our traditional system of 1v16, 2v15, and so forth. The first three rounds up until the final will be played on a weekly basis, whereas the final itself will be decided based on the last full week of action plus whatever shortened week that follows - which this season is a six day week that ends on Saturday April 9th.

Good luck to everyone in both their regular season and playoff ambitions.

What do you think about your team's performance so far this season?
Meh, same old, same old...overall pretty happy, injuries have taken their toll a bit, but we can all say that at some point during the season. I just can't get over the hump, I see the flaws, just not much I can do to fix them.

What are the most important reasons behind your team's performance?
General consistency I guess, fairly well rounded team.

Do you have any concrete ambitions for the remainder of the season?
Hopefully climb back up a space or two in the standings...unfortunately I don't think Norbot is catchable.

Which of your players would you be willing to listen to offers to?
I'm honestly pretty open to offers on anyone, make a pitch.
- What would be the starting price for these players?
See above.

What areas of your team are you looking to address in the future?
I might be inclined to get a little younger, but that doesn't mean I'll sell my good vets for nothing.

Which teams have surprised you the most so far this season?
Gladiators.

Who do you think will win the Norack Cup as regular season champion?
Intentionally left blank because it makes me to ill to type again.

Who do you think will win the FHL playoffs?
A team in the FHL.

Do you have any other messages for the fellowship of the FHL?

<3

What do you think about your team's performance so far this season?
Started out alright, my roster was producing well except for Getzlaf. Lately its been the opposite, Getzlaf is putting up points and the rest are overall slumping. I've gone from fighting for a spot in the top five to picking in the top ten in June.

What are the most important reasons behind your team's performance?
The slumps of Desharnias, Nyqvist, Lee, and Getzlaf have out weight the strong performances of Weise, Parenteau, and Alzner. Don't even get me started on my goaltending...

Do you have any concrete ambitions for the remainder of the season?
Not really just scout and ride it out and start again next year.

Which of your players would you be willing to listen to offers to?
Kronwall, Emelin, and Lehtonen.

What areas of your team are you looking to address in the future?
Goaltending...

Which teams have surprised you the most so far this season?
No team in particular, just the closeness and parity this season compared to last, a bad week can really be costly.

Who do you think will win the Norack Cup as regular season champion?
Is this really going to be a mystery or surprise? The Vikings.

Who do you think will win the FHL playoffs?
The Militia for some reason.

Do you have any other messages for the fellowship of the FHL?
Have you heard about this Connor kid?

FHL Gazette: Pre-deadline survey: Serpents and Militia

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2016-02-12 05:04:33

What do you think about your team's performance so far this season?
It has been a very disappointing season for the Serpents. After making the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, I was hoping for and expecting some improvement this season and that hasn't happened. This is the first time the team has been outside of the playoff picture and, while the season is not over yet, I don't think that will change and that's unfortunate.

What are the most important reasons behind your team's performance?
Early in the season, the team fell behind right out of the gate because of a mind-numbingly sluggish start for the team overall. A select few players, like Boedker, Plekanec and Price showed up ready to play.

The number one reason, the reason the team has stayed near the bottom of the standings, despite the improved play of the defense and some other players, has been the injury to Carey Price. His continued absence has effectively assured me that the team will stay near the bottom for the rest of the season, especially if his season is over.

Do you have any concrete ambitions for the remainder of the season?
It would be an absolute death wish to try to make a push for the playoffs and squeak into 15th or 16th at this point. I would rather not feel like an English peasant taking shelter in my church as Vikings storm in, slice me to bits and take all of my nice jewels, or like a lone infantry soldier charging at a militia, firing aimlessly while I am flooded with bullets. So...it would be nice if I could unload some underperforming players or aging players and try to get younger.

Which of your players would you be willing to listen to offers to?
- What would be the starting price for these players?
The biggest fish I am looking to sell off is Tomas Plekanec. Be warned that he is due to make $6 million starting next season. The asking price would be a forward and a pick or prospect. Otherwise, I am willing to listen to offers for anyone, more or less.

What areas of your team are you looking to address in the future?
Scoring depth at forward is still a problem for my team as it has been every season. I have been hoping that some of my younger forwards would improve by now because that team is fairly deep on paper overall, but some players just can never seem to get a grip on things and make some noise.

Which teams have surprised you the most so far this season?
In all brutal honesty, I would have to say mine. Even with the the injuries to my star players, I really thought this was the year we could have played ourselves into a position to win a playoff round for the first time in franchise history. Instead, I'm in the lottery for the first time. I really did not expect that.

Who do you think will win the Norack Cup as regular season champion?
Dem Vikings

Who do you think will win the FHL playoffs?
I'm going with my pick from last year, the Militia.

Do you have any other messages for the fellowship of the FHL?
Best of luck to all the teams who advance to the playoffs.

What do you think about your team's performance so far this season?
We would love to be a the top, but I am very happy overall.

What are the most important reasons behind your team's performance?
Our club has been fairly consistent over the last couple of years, even though we've made some changes. The players that have been traded away or pushed out of the lineup due to cap restraints have been replaced by similar production. We cannot be happier with the additions of Dubisnky, Ristolainen, Rask and the emergence of Gostisbehere. We've had consistency from longtime Militia players like Tarasenko, Jenner, Johansen and Karlsson. We believe we still have a couple hole to fill to make a run at dethroning the mighty Vikings.

Do you have any concrete ambitions for the remainder of the season?
The ultimate goal is to dethrone the Vikings, however our main goal is to stay in the top three and make a run for the prestigious NoRack Cup. It would also be nice to see a couple of young players, particularly on the back end, to show signs of breaking out.

Which of your players would you be willing to listen to offers to?
Right now the Militia are willing to listen to offers on Toews and Kesler. However it is not limited to just them. Most players can be had, for the right place. With a few exclusions of course.
- What would be the starting price for these players?
It depends, but we would like to gain more cost effective defensive depth and solidify or goaltending.

What areas of your team are you looking to address in the future?
As stated above, we would like to address our defensive depth and goaltending.

Which teams have surprised you the most so far this season?
One of the biggest surprises for me has been the consistency of the Vikings. Another surprise has been the Serpents, although they've had terrible luck with injuries to franchise player Carey Price. It's nice to see a club like the Dragons start breaking out.

Who do you think will win the Norack Cup as regular season champion?
Ultimately I think the Vikings will pull through. Sadly!!

Who do you think will win the FHL playoffs?
Anything can happen in the FHL Playoffs. I would love to see an upset. I can see a team like the Bulldogs making noise in the playoffs.

Do you have any other messages for the fellowship of the FHL?
Time to tear down the Vikings! ;D
