2014-15 Pre-season survey: MG10's Serpents

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-23 06:31:09

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?

My team finished the 2013-14 season in 14th place. We had a typical Toronto Maple Leafs season as we had a surprisingly solid first half. If I’m not mistaken, we stood as high as fourth, keeping pace with perennial contenders like the Vikings. We gradually fell down the leaderboard because of a few injuries, Carey Price cooled off towards the end of the year and the players who performed well in the first half couldn’t maintain their pace.

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?

In terms of personnel, the team hasn’t changed very much at all. I elected not to sign any free agents when our free agent frenzy began in the Summer. Some much needed pay-cuts in the off-season has enabled me to dress my best roster. So, hopefully, that will make a difference. The best addition to the team this year is actually an internal one, with rookie Andre Burakovsky being one of my best performers so far.

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?

Of course, our goal is to win the FHL Cup. *Wink*. In the short-term, it would be really nice if the team could make the top 10 on the leaderboard and stay inside the top 10.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster

Mikkel Boedker – Nicklas Backstrom – Marian Gaborik
Shane Doan – Tomas Plekanec – Kyle Okposo
Patrik Berglund – David Legwand – Michael Frolik
Jakob Silfverberg – Brandon Sutter – Andre Burakovsky

Duncan Keith – Ryan McDonagh
Nick Leddy – Carl Gunnarsson
Morgan Rielly – Kris Russell

Carey Price – Al Montoya

Which players do you expect to carry your team?

Honestly, anybody. Last year, Kyle Okposo ended up carrying the team, a player I seriously considered trading during the lock-out year. This year, Mikkel Boedker has been our best player. So, it’s hard to say.

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?

I don’t expect many of my players to surprise people. With the nice start Mikkel Boedker has had so far, and being in a contract year, he could rise up as Arizona’s top offensive player.

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?

My team’s biggest strength has always been my defense corps. My team was ranked 8th in defensive points league-wide last year and 9th in goaltending points. My weakness has always been my offense. My team ranked 19th offense last year.

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?

Top 5 will go Mustangs, Vikings, Heatwave, Militia, Tigers.

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?

I like the Militia to win the 2nd FHL Cup.

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?

I think the Lakers will end up with the best shot in the McDavid sweeps.

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?

Have a great season everyone!

2014-15 Pre-season survey: Crott's Rattleheads

'

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?

18th... I neglected my roster for a while and I'm still recovering from it.

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?

Not much, just signed Nabokov for some depth in goal and released Loktinov.

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?

The Rattleheads are off to a decent start, baring injuries I think finishing around 10th would be successful given the last two seasons finishes.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster

Glencross-Getzlaf-Zuccarello
Desharnais-Monahan-Nyquist
Bergenhiem-Brassard-Parenteau
Arcobello-Brodziak-Clowe

Kronwall-Voynov
Emelin-Kulikov
Ceci-Brodie

Lehtonen
Nabokov

Which players do you expect to carry your team?

I have a bunch of young forwards that are coming into their own, they will need to produce.

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?

Nyquist amd Zuccarello will prove they didn't over acheive last season and have productive seasons.

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?

The Strength of the rattleheads is their youth and defence core, weakness is goaltending outside of Lehtonen there isn't much depth.

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?

Vikings, Heatwave, Mustangs, Serpents, Bombers

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?

Toss up between the Vikings and the Heatwave.

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?

Having been their battling to not be the worst of the worst, I do not want to label anyone for the basement. Its a position no one wants to be in until after game 82 when they can draft 1st overall.

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?

Good luck!

2014-15 Pre-season survey: Samson's Thunder

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-21 01:18:18

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?
21st, I blame injuries. I know everyone does, but I was in the playoff hunt until I lost a bunch of guys long term at around the Olympic break. That included some key players like Zetterberg, Hertl, Filppula and Barkov, among others.

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?
not as much as I have in the past, but I made a few moves..

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?
my goal is to make the playoffs. The season isn't starting too well, but I'm hoping Hall and others can get going.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster
as an actual team and not just Stats based...
Hall/Zetterberg/Hertl
Abdelkader/Filppula/Barkov
Bickell/Horcoff/Gionta
Draisaitl/Connolly/Rakell
Boumeester/Josi
Hjalmarsson/Petry
Trouba/Brodin
Lehner
Dubnyk

Which players do you expect to carry your team?
Hall, though as I discovered last year he can't do it alone

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?
not sure, I guess it would depend on what other people know about my players...
I'm hoping Dubnyk is one who has a bounce back season.

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?
Strength: Defence
Weakness: Goaltending (at least until Lehner takes over as a starter)

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?
The usual

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?
I'm hoping for a surprise team to win it, someone that no one predicts

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?
Spartans, Dragons

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?
good luck to all (just not too much)

2014-15 Pre-season survey: Jfrizzio's Militia

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-20 00:32:37 (updated by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-21 01:16:48)

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?
15th. I kept and and dressed too many high salary players.

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?
I haven't changed too much. I've been playing the waiting game, waiting for players to develop. I'm also trying to be smarter about who I dress.

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?
My goal is to finish in the top 5. I'd also like to deal a top dollar player. But of course no campaign is successful unless you take home the prestigious NoRack Cup! Therefore that is the ultimate goal.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster
Malkin - Toews - Tarasenko
Nash - Johansen - Voracek
Tatar - Kesler - Little
Jenner - Johanssen - Niederrieter

Scandella - Karlsson
Gormley - Letang
Robidas - Zadorov

Hiller
Berner

Which players do you expect to carry your team?
Malkin, Toews, Johansen, Kesler and Karlsson

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?
I'm hoping Niederrieter can establish himself as a very good two-way winger. I am also hopng that Brandon Gormley finally gets a legitimate chance in Phoenix. Ahem, I mean Arizona.

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?
My team's biggest strength is definitely young up and coming forwards. My weakness is my ability to play with the cap and my depth on defence.

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?
Vikings, Heatwave, Gladiators, Bulldogs, Rebels

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?
Vikings repeat

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?
Hopefully not myself!

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?
Just want to wish everyone good luck, but most of all have fun!

2014-15 Pre-season survey: Racki's Bombers

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-19 01:33:13

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?
The Bombers finished 10th last year. The season was a strange one for the Bombers. We started out by pushing out any salaries that were quite high, but on good players, in favor of lower salaries on marginal players. There was a bit of panic over the tight cap that the teams were faced with at the time. This led to the Bombers getting off to a terrible start. Goaltending wasn't treated as an important enough position, as Rinne was seen shipped to the Chiefs.

Midway through the season however, the GM woke up and started to put focus back on players who were strong now, and funds were found to pay these players. This saw the Bombers continually climb their way into the fight, from, if I recall correctly, 2nd last, up to 10th position.

We want to thank Bombers fans for their support during the rough months in 2013.. without you, none of this would have been worth it!

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?
With all due respect to the players who were once here, I think a lot of the fat has been trimmed. The bombers have some very reliable veterans on the team now, and also have some great future stars. Not a lot changed in the off-season here, most of the change came towards the end of last season. We feel that was positive enough to wait and see.

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?
Our goal is to reach the top 5 now. Last year we finished 10th because of our abysmal start, which rests solely on me, the GM here. Now we should be off to a great start, which should continue throughout the season and allow this team to sit in the top 5.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster
Pacioretty Carter Read
Nichushkin Ribeiro Hudler
Ryder Scheifele Havlat
Purcell Soderberg Eller

Beauchemin Krug
Ehrhoff Coburn
Despres Bartkowski

Crawford
Stalock

Which players do you expect to carry your team?
Corey Crawford, Max Pacioretty (as always), Jeff Carter, Torey Krug, and an underrated Jiri Hudler

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?
Probably Simon Despres. He was a guy that I know people had on their radar, but he's kind of slipped off recently. Seems he's generating interest this year though.

Possibly Ehrhoff too, now that he's escaped that terrible Buffalo team and gone on toa team with some high flying offense.

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?
We're well set up for the future and for today, which is something we couldn't have said in around November last year.

For weakness, there's some old balls players lingering around ont he team still that I'd love to part with.

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?
This would be easier if it was "top seven". Vikings, Bombers, Bulldogs, Gladiators, Mustangs. It'll be a dogfight with the Heatwave and Bulldogs close by too.

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?
Other than your illustrious Bombers, I'd say the Mustangs have a good shot at it.

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?
I hate answering this sort of question. I hope they prove me wrong (unless it's my team down there), but I'll say the Thunder and Spartans will be down there again.

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?
Pick my junk up off of waivers already!

2014-2015 Pre-season survey: Gr8one's Bulldogs

Created by NorwegianOiler on 2014-10-17 10:18:36

Where did you finish last season and what are the main reasons you ended up there?

I finished Fourth overall last season which I was pretty happy with, and it was due almost entirely due to the offensive contributions of my forwards. My starting goalies didn't look that great on paper but ended up holding their own. My defense shat the bed last year, that was by far my teams biggest weakness finishing 18th overall.

What have you changed about your team since the end of last season?

I didn't really do much this off season, I added a high first round pick in Nylander that I have fairly high hopes for and am glad to have sent him back to Sweden to develop. I completely revamped my defense during last season though and am looking forward to having Byfuglien and Yandle for a full season and am hoping for an even bigger breakout from Faulk. Some other notable acquisitions on my back end from last year are Ryan Murray and Chris Tanev of whom I look forward to long romising careers from them.

What is your goal for the season - what would you consider a successful campaign?

I'd consider another top 5 FHL finish to be a success. I don't think my forwards will be quite as good this year but my defense should be improved and hopefully my golatending will remain at least at par with last year although I am crossing my fingers for a much improved Islanders team and Halak having a statement year, a few more starts from Raanta would be nice too.

Create a "12 forward, 6 defenseman, 2 goalie lineup" from your roster

Vanek Backes Semin
Cammalleri Marleau Simmonds
Shaw Couturier Richards
Kruger Coyle Raffl

Byfuglien Yandle
Faulk Murray
Enstrom Tanev

Halak
Raanta

Which players do you expect to carry your team?

Backes, Halak, Byfuglien,

Do you have any players you expect to surprise people this season?

I think Filip Forsberg might open some eyes if he gets his chance this year, and since it finally seems the Sabres are handling Grigorenko correctly he could do some nice things this year if given the chance, however that might not happen until next year.hopefully)

What are your team's biggest strengths and weaknesses?

Geez, I honestly don't now, biggest strength hopefulyl will be depth and an improved D corps. Weakness, is there seems to be more question marks in my lineup this year and I had gambled on the cap being higher this year so am not able to ice the team I had hoped I would due to cap restraints.

Which teams do you predict as top five in the FHL this season?

Viqueens, Gladianus', Poontangs, Milshitia, and the mighty Bulldogs!(not necessarily in that order) Honourable mentions to the Bummers and the Freakwave.

- Do you have a favorite to win it all?

Bulldogs all the waaaaaay!

Which teams do you predict to be near the bottom come season's end?

Who knows.

Do you have any messages to relay to the fellowship of the FHL?

Love all you bastids!
